Ubiquiti – UniFi Protect
I worked on the Protect team that specializes in physical security hardware and software production. It's a cloud of deep and diverse integrations between UniFi home security devices and the platform to manage all of them. This platform serves 1M+ users monthly, ranging from households to large enterprises.

Controls for Pan-Tilt-Zoom Cameras
Controls for moving around your PTZ camera lens were cumbersome and only available from landscape mode. I created a simple and intuitive control segment for an uninterrupted experience. Never forced to landscape view, never lose your thought. Just eyes on the target.


NVR Mobile
NVR (Network Video Recorder) is a complicated device that processes all of your video recordings locally, without them ever leaving your home. Think of it as a server. Up until this moment, there was not information about the capacity and state of your NVR on the mobile apps. So I sat down and created the most simple and elegant way how to quickly access this information at a glance.



Alarm Manager
Creating alarms is a very sensitive and nuanced process. They can be very basic, but also very advanced and complex. I worked on multiple incremental versions of Alarm Manager, each bringing better experience and more flexibility to users.
One of my initiatives → a node based concept called Automations. With the growing number of features and looking at user feedback, I noticed that the current linear process of creating alarms is sub-optimal. I designed and vibe-coded a prototype for Automations – a non-linear node based process engine, that would allow users to create complex, scalable and smart automations based on conditions and triggers. This became a new avenue for the existing foundation of alarms.



New Device Adoption On Mobile
Protect has been around for 10 years. As with any piece of software that has been around - it grows bigger, new features get added and the reality is - legacy design starts to seep through the cracks. This is no exception - while running through updates we noticed an overlooked, but very important part of the UI - the adoption sheet. It's the beginning of every new product's life - after purchase user plugs the device in, it connects to network and gets picked up by your phone - the adoption process begins. But this adoption sheet did look outdated and uninspiring. I went on to create a fresh look and system for the new device adoption flow.


Dashboard Camera Grid Arrangement
Camera grid is like bread and butter of Protect dashboard. It's the most common use case for most users. As the technology develops, also user needs develop. They have wide angle 180° cameras, dual lens cameras, 360° sphere cameras. And the grid needs to account for that. So out goes the old static grid - I designed a flexible grid system where user can drag, stretch and arrange the camera grid in any way they would want. Create multiple different grids or even view their whole security system on Apple TV.




Integrations
Another project I worked on from 0. Integrations is a powerful extension of Protect. Imagine connecting your security system to a PoS terminal for store owners, for camera and sales event data cross checking. Or integrating your sensors and cameras with a security company. This involves a lot of 3rd party coordination. Aligning with integration partner technical requirements and designing a system flexible enough to expose it to users.



Hardware + Software
I'm a big fan of hardware design. And Ubiquiti takes great attention to detail in hardware. I was excited to be able to design GUI for devices that are not computers or phones. There are specifics that limit your design decisions, but they can also be helpful, because they limit the number of choice and options you have to make.

Information Arrangement
A common case for every product designer, especially when working on an established product - knowing what and how to optimize. Here is an example of a settings view, that has collected various features and additions over time. I went on to see how we can compact it and reduce the mental load for users. Just by reorganizing the same information, we reduce the scrollable height but more than 50%. It's cleaner, easier to navigate and now also more aligned with the new iOS 26 design language.

Closing Thoughts
